Hello, My name is John and I am the Vice President of the Florida Wiener Dog Derby.
We are a local all-volunteer 501C3 that raises money for our partner dachshund rescues.
My wife and I have attended the Avalon Park Oktoberfest many times and enjoyed it very much. Since we live locally in East Orlando, we have long wanted to have an Oktoberfest race here in our home town. We additionally noticed that what would add to the charm of Oktoberfest would be traditional wiener dog races. Anyone with a wiener dog, or dachshund mix, could enter with all proceeds going to one of our partner rescues.
We are professionals at conducting the races. We only have safe gated and fenced races and require all dogs to be up to date on vaccines and ask owners to carry proof with them. We have been doing the races since 2010 and would like this race in Avalon Park (if you would like having us) to be an official circuit race for the overall Florida Circuit leading to the National Circuit title.
Yes, wiener dog racing is a fun pastime hobby for dachshunds and their families alike. We are proudly apart of the National Dachshund Racing Circuit which promotes dachshund rescue, rehabilitation and adoption. You can easily access our website: www.floridawienerdogderby.com
All we ask of you, besides a yes, is a little volunteer help to unload and load the equipment for the race. Maybe an additional hand or two to help with the crowd. That’s about it.
